For the first time in Olympic history, President Thomas Bach has sent a message of hope and unity to refugees around the world by participating in the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Olympic Refugee Team's participation in the Rio Olympics has greatly contributed to promoting the human rights of refugees by making the international community aware of the seriousness of the refugee problem.

President Bach also contributed greatly to promoting global harmony and friendship through the vitalization of sports in developing countries, including the development of sports facilities and efficient utilization plans, and expansion of the role of developing countries.

President Bach led North Korea to participate in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics through sports talks between the two Koreas and the adoption of an Olympic Truce Resolution in the United Nations. The peace dynamic of Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, which was regarded as a symbol of the Peace Olympics, contributed greatly to the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.

President Thomas Bach was awarded the Seoul Peace Prize 2020 in recognition of his significant contribution to world peace through sports.
